Presence of fat in liver is normal. But if its amount exceed to more than 5% -10% then it is termed as Fatty Liver disease. In fatty liver disease, fatty tissues are build ups slowly in the liver when a person’s diet exceeds the amount of fat that his or her body can handle.
Liver is the second largest organ in the body. Its function is to control the digestion process and remove unwanted or harmful substances from the blood. This process is interrupted if too much fat get accumulated in the liver. This may cause problems in the liver. Most cases of fatty liver are seen in people between 40 to 60 age. Fatty liver disease can also occur during pregnancy.
There are mainly two types of fatty liver disease
- Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALD)
- Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease can be caused by overweight, high cholesterol and diabetes,viral hepatitis, genetic disorders and inherited liver disease. Presence of too much bacteria in the small intestine and other changes in the intestine may also leads to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
Symptoms of fatty liver disease :
- Feeling tired and weakness
- Nausea
- Loss of weight or appetite
- Size of liver get increased
- Feel pain in the center or right upper part of the belly
- Seen dark colored patches in the neck or underarms
