Today In The Canadian Football League

He's back.  After being wooed by at least five of the nine Canadian Football League teams, Weston Dressler has decided to come home.  The Saskatchewan RoughRiders made it official this morning saying simply that the team had agreed to terms with the outstanding wide receiver.  The Ottawa RedBlacks appeared to be the most aggressive apparently putting an offer of $250k on the table.  The Calgary Stampeders also are reported to have made a late offer in a bid to lure Dressler to Cowtown. Dressler became a free agent when the Riders released him to allow Dressler to pursue his dream of playing in the National Football League.  He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs but really was not given a chance to make the team.  The Chiefs brought in a plethora of wide receivers.  Dressler dressed for three exhibition games but was only able to touch the ball once.  He returned a kick off 19 yards.
So now Dressler is back in Regina, reunited with quarterback Darian Durant giving DD an impressive array of targets.  Add in Ryan Getzlaf, Rob Bagg, Taj Smith, Ryan Smith, Brett Swain and it looks pretty good for the green and white.  One of the afore mentioned players may have to go to make room on the roster and under the cap space for Dressler.  Fans welcome Dressler back with open arms and many businesses got into the act offering Dressler all kinds of products if he would sign in Saskatchewan including free blizzards from Dairy Queen.  No word from DQ on whether those were mini blizzards or larger.

“My assumption the whole time was that he was going to go back to Regina, and in the end that’s how it played out,”. “I’m not surprised.”  Marcel Desjardins Ottawa RedBlacks GM

Where are all the stars? Where’s all the scoring? The product put forth from a league built on offensive fireworks is sputtering.  Ed Willes columnist with the Vancouver Province on the CFL lacking excitement

Not even close. “I’ve only played three quarters of football.“I haven’t even played a full game yet, so I just have to do my job, do what the coaches tell me to do and things will take care of themselves. I really think we have a good team around us.” QB Jonathon Crompton when asked if he could be the Alouettes Saviour

People make a big deal about it because it was a close game and because he has the record. It’s not just him. It’s me and snapper and we have to be perfect for him so he can make those.  Bo Levi Mitchell on Rene Parades missing a couple of field goals

"He got the reps today so we could determine where he was at healthwise and we'll see as the week goes on,". "He did well, he seemed OK. Of course, Zach isn't going to complain about anything. He's a very competitive guy. He wants to play."  Kent Austin on the chances of Zach Collaros playing this week

"I think that was part of the deal coming here was to change to a more positive mindset to take to the field at all times. And we’ve done well with that, so I don’t anticipate any problems in that regard."Mike O’Shea Bomber coach when asked about the Bombers ten year drought of not winning in Regina

“I’m just going to go out and try to be explosive, spark things and try to get field position for the offence. See what happens,” “I don’t like to talk about the games — just go out and play to the best of my ability and give us a chance to win.”  Montreal Alouettes new kick returner and college star James Rodgers
