Today In The Canadian Football League

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams - Eleanor Roosevelt.

Unfortunately for a couple of Saskatchewan RoughRider free agents their dreams of playing in the National Football League, at least for this season, came to an end.   Weston Dressler was released from the Kansas City Chiefs.  Some might disagree but I don't think the Chiefs really gave Dressler any chance of making the team.  One play in two games was all he got and that was a kick off return.
For Kory Sheets the dream ended a different way.  Friday night Sheets injured his achilles tendon in a game against the Green Bay Packers.  His season is over whether with the Oakland Raiders or the Saskatchewan Rough Riders.
Will Weston Dressler be back with the Riders ?  He now becomes a free agent and a couple of teams with deep pockets have indicated they will make a play for his services.

Guaranteed win night is a bust for the BC Lions.  Lions President Dennis Skulsky declared the Lions would beat the Riders Sunday night and if they didn't all the fans in attendance would receive a free ticket to a future Lions game.  Well the Riders won 20 - 16 leaving Mr. Skulsky with egg on his face and the Lions with a little dent in their bottom line.

Of course,” “Any time someone is bold enough to make that statement, we take that as disrespect. Honestly. We know he has confidence in his team and that’s one thing. But, at the end of the day, we take that to heart.”  Darian Durant when asked if the team drew motivation for Dennis Skulsky’s guaranteed win night

The president doesn’t play football games so the president had nothing to do with the outcome of this game,” “We play between the lines and we didn’t get it done. To me, I take it as a slap in the face to allow a backup quarterback to come in here and beat us. I’m speechless with that.”  Ryan Phillips BC Lions defensive back

"We're gutsy, we're grimy, we're just going to get a win "The guys know what it takes to win, they're going to be tough, some will be a little easier than this, they're going to be tough and we're just going to have to stick it out."  Corey Chamblin on the Riders huge win over the BC Lions. "

It was just about surviving contact with the ground, I knew as soon as it hit my hands I was just trying to cradle it with my body, ""I definitely shocked myself when I caught that one." Offensive lineman turned tight end Dan Clark on his touchdown reception

“I understand why they’re booing“ As players, as a team, we have to come to the point where we say, ‘Enough of this.’ We won’t win games with our offence playing this way. We just keep finding ways to shoot ourselves in the foot.”  Henry Burris Ottawa RedBlack quarterback

He knew there was a plan; Jonathan was going to get an opportunity. He didn’t last week because (Brink) had a hot hand. It works both ways. If you want to stay in, produce. Sorry, I can’t worry about people’s feelings.”  Tom Higgins on Alex Brink being upset that he was pulled after the first quarter against Winnipeg

A year ago, they told me my career might be over because of my wrist being dislocated in Green Bay. I said, ‘I’m keeping these footballs — I don’t care.’ My mom is probably going crazy right now, so, hey mom, how you doing?”  Sederrik Cunningham on scoring two touchdowns against Ottawa
