No getting around it.
I wish I had some magic trick but I don't have anything more magical than putting your salad in a jar and sucking out the air (Which, by the way, works great). BUT we do get by with 1-2 trips to the store each month and we still EAT FRESH ALL MONTH. For real.
A few things I have learned about fresh food:
*You DO NOT have to go grocery shopping every week for fresh food in order to eat clean. It's true.
*Buy a variety of veggies and PLAN when to eat them. We save things like peppers, asparagus, baby carrots, etc to eat closer to the end of the month since they don't go bad as quick as other items like spinach.
*Use your freezer!! When things like spinach, bananas, etc. are nearing their end of life we freeze them! Spinach is awesome to throw in shakes, pastas, or use to make pizza sauce. And we freeze a TON of bananas for our shakes.
*Buy FROZEN veggies and fruit. We eat fresh all month but when our salad runs out (2-3 weeks into the month) we start using out frozen veggies more. Nothing wrong with that! Fruit is nice to have in the freezer to make smoothies, eat plain, put on crepes or pancakes, or even make a berry syrup!
*Don't be picky. If you think you "have" to have this or that all month then you will end up running to the store every week. We have learned to just make do with what we have and use it up! It's amazing how creative you can get during the last week of the month ;).
*If you don't know how to best store a fruit/veggie then GOOGLE it. There is more than one way to skin a cat and google is a great place to figure out which way will work best for you.
*PUT IT IN YOUR FRIDGE!!! The only thing we leave on our counter is bananas that we aren't freezing and an apple or two. Everything else goes in the fridge or in a cool spot. Tomatoes, peppers, oranges all keep longer (in my opinion) if you refrigerate them!
