Self Care Deficit Definition
Self-care is one of the basic human capacity to meet their needs in order to sustain life, health and well-being in accordance with the condition of his health. Clients otherwise disturbed self care if it can not perform self-care.
According to Potter & Perry (2005), Personal hygiene is an act to maintain the cleanliness and health of a person's physical and psychological well-being. Self Care Deficit is a condition where a person is unable to perform hygiene care for himself. (Tarwoto and Wartonah 2000).
Types of Self- Care Deficit
1. Self Care Deficit: Bathing / hygiene.
Less self care (bathing) is an impaired ability to perform activities of bathing / hygiene.
2. Self Care Deficit: Wearing clothes / makeup.
Less self-care (wear) is an impaired ability to wear their own clothes and dress up activity.
3. Self Care Deficit: Eat.
Less self-care (eating) is an impaired ability to show the feeding activity.
4. Self Care Deficit: Toileting.
Less self-care (toileting) is an impaired ability to perform or complete their own toileting activities (Nurjannah: 2004).
Signs and Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of clients with self-care deficit is:
a) Physical
- Body odor, dirty clothes.
- Dirty hair and skin.
- Long and dirty nails.
- Dirty teeth with mouth odor.
- Untidy appearance.
- Lazy, no initiative.
- Withdrew, insulating themselves.
- Feeling helpless, low self-esteem and feel humiliated.
- Interaction less.
- Less activity.
- Not being able to act appropriately.
- How to eat irregular urinating and defecating in random places, brushing and bathing are not able to independently.
Data are commonly found in self-care deficit is:
1. Subjective data
- The patient feels weak.
- Lazy to move.
- Feel helpless.
- Dirty hair, disheveled.
- Body and clothes dirty and smelly.
- Mouth and teeth smell.
- Skin dull and dirty.
- Nails long and unkempt.
